Is this reflux?

I have been having intense pain in my back and left upper quad.  I went to ER about 5 mos. ago and was told it was reflux.  Followed up with PCP and he thinks it is reflux also and prescribed nexium.  Up until the ER visit I was probably eating 5-10 tums a day.  After being on Nexium for 3 weeks, symptoms disappeared for almost 6 weeks.  This week, symptoms reappeared.  Symptoms include the intense pain in back and left side, mostly happening at night or late afternoon and lasts anywhere for 2 hours to 13 hours usually resulting in violently vomitting.  Pain is not always in back and left side, sometimes just the back and sometimes just my left side.  I have been referred to GI doctor and appt. is next week.  I have never heard of reflux causing such extreme and intense pain.  Nothing I do can make it stop, no position is comfortable.  Doesn't seem like reflux could hurt this bad!

HI...a PCP is ok to go to, but u should have testing done and put on meds and a modified diet and lifestyle to aid the meds to help u feel better. Meds alone will not fix this, plus if u do not know the root of it u may not see it cease either.

U may want to have ur Gall Bladder checked, a PH test, barium swallow, check for H.pylori....just to start.

U can feel like u have reflux and actually have too little acid, then a probiotic may help....u should also look at ur ability to eliminate waste....as having IBS can affect u in the way u mention.
