LPR symptoms?

In Dec 2013 started coughing with blood specks. Had lung function test - ok. Quit smoking and drinking beer.

Given antihistamines - didn't work. Then had more blood in spit, throat weird and sore.

Quit tomatoes, garlic, onion, fatty foods, citrus, coffee, tea. Lots of mucous, usually milky white, weird throat like something there.

Started sleeping with raised pillows.Tried Omeprasol for 18 days, didnt really work (realise I should try for longer).

Eating at least 2 hours before lying down. Lost 9kg in 6mths, now 65kg.

Throat still weird, dry and sore in mornings. Feels like there's something in throat, and now have slight hoarseness which could be from a viral infection. Also, muscles of throat are a bit sore when I swallow.

Had hair nutrient test - mineral levels borderline.

Had endoscopy and colonoscopy last week - didn't show anything. Started omeprasol again, 6 days (no change yet).

2 weeks ago had swollen lymph on LHS of neck but no pain (had a really bad flu a month before, may have been from that). Taken antibiotics over 6 days, not down yet.

The sensation when swallowing is not nice, I still get a feeling like something is there. Constantly getting mucous up from throat but no cough. No heartburn. Very tired. Seen 4 doctors so far, Seeing ENT in 2 weeks. Anyone have similar symptoms?

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

It is very  possibly LPR....and having the flu can worsen symptoms especially when on antibiotics.....

Once you are done with the antibiotics ask your Dr about trying a probiotic to replace all the good bacteria killed off by the antibiotics.

The meds can take a few weeks to be effective...and  avoiding foods, bevs etc that can be triggers can be helpful....

As for the pillows they tend to not work as well as elevating the head of the bed...

And if not eating for 2 hrs b4 laying down has not helped, you may want to change it to  3 to 4 hrs and see if that helps....

It is very possible to have LPR and not experience heartburn....so that is not a defining symptom for the issues you are having....

May I ask how long you were on the antihistamines that they were deemed  ineffective?

I am sure the elevated bed will give you some benefits...and most meds can take a few weeks b4 you see any benefits...so give them time...be patient.

One med I was on for something unrelated to this actually had a 2 week adjustment period ...which trust me was very difficult and I had no idea about it..until I told the Dr I wanted off the meds...and after he explained it all I gave it more time and finally did see some results....

Talk with your Dr....
