My doctor says it might be acid reflux..?

I've been feeling like i've had a turtleneck on, and its been burning and i occasionally have a tickley feeling in it like something crawling, my stomache and throat are tender to touch, it feels irritating like i constantly need to touch it or itch it. And i've been feeling it for about 3-4 years now, its just now gotten to irritating to handle, i went to the doctors he says the glands in my throat are swollen and it COULD be acid reflux. Has anyone with acid reflux had any of these symptoms? What could it be?

oh and ive also been waking up every night feeling heavy and sore on my throat like someones been sitting on my esophugus

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

There is a condition of GERD where both UES and LES slow down and bcuz they are not working correctly it allows the GERD to reflux up into the throat....if left untreated too long it can affect the voice box.Please see our Health Pages for more info.

I also have issues where I feel something is at my neck such as u said a turtle neck.....I really can not stand to wear one.....but I also believe my throat issues are due to nodules on my thyroid.

May I ask, did ur dr rx ne meds?

What has he suggested u do next?

Well, my doc did prescribe prevacid, but I cant really tell if its working or not. And he said for me to come back to see him soon so I think that i'm going to suggest an x-ray or mri to eliminate the possibilities that I could have nodules on my thyroid or something. All I know is I want it gone because it's driving me insane!

Hi...I can relate to how it can drive us nutz.....I didn't know y all of a sudden it seemed I couldn't stand to wear nething up around my neck....when I found I had nodules it all made sense.....

How long r u taking the previcaid....these meds can take a while b4 u begin to see the effects. Give it several weeks and do not miss a dosage.

I've been taking the meds for about 3 weeks now. The doctor felt my stomache and it was still really sensitive so he told me I should start taking them in the morning and at night, thats the maximum dosage, and if that doesn't work then I don't have acid reflux. And the doctor did some blood tests on my thyroid and everything came up clear, is it possible to have a thyroid nodule without having hypo or hyperthyroidism?, did you have one of those when you found out about your nodules?

Hi...do u have copies of the bloodwork ?.....I found our from our Thyroid forum here, that most drs do not do the right tests to look for Hashimoto's a hypo condition of the thyroid with nodules.

U need to have ur TSH- FREE T 3- FREE T 4- TPO antibodies........It was an ultra sound that helped find my nodules.

Even after finding the nodules my dr was doing the wrong labs and said I was normal/clear and I wasn't put on meds.....the lab was using the wrong ranges......deff look into the threads here on the thyroid forum.

No, the doctor didn't tell me what tests he did he said a "thyroid 2 test" is what i had and it came up clear. I've since been back to see him and he gave me a different medicine because the one i had wasn't working. Every now and then i feel a sharp pain in my thyroid on the left side(or I believe its my thyroid), and then it goes away.. but the doctors don't seem very concerned and they said i shouldn't have a MRI, or at least I don't need one. So I guess i'll just have to wait and see if it gets better or not.
