Nissan Laparscopic Surgery

by GG1943, Aug 12, 2009 11:07PM
My husband had Nissan Laparscopic Surgery a few years ago.  He has been unable to burp or vomit since the surgery. He has gone to the ER several times to have his stomach pumped out. He was not told that this would happen before he had surgery.  We have asked physicians, and they cannot give us an answer.  If anyone else has this problem, please advise.  If he had known this, we may have checked into other alternatives besides surgery.  Could his stomach been tightened too much?  Could this be fixed?  He is so miserable with the bloating and sometimes it is hard for him to breathe.  This is why we go to the ER.  Afraid he might die.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

I have not had this proceedure, but there have been many threads here on this topic. If u would like to read them , use the search this community feature and type in Nissen.

From what I have read on this , u can not vomit after having this done. I have also heard u can have the proceedure reversed, but have no idea what that involves or the after effects.

I hope someone with this experience will comment.
Good Luck

That is a common symptom I think!I had the surgery done 5 years ago and I now have to be very careful with what I eat.  The diet is quite important - no sugar, wheat, dairy, coffee.  Biggest is sugar and wheat.  Go to surgeondoc.co.za.  This is where I had it done, there is quite informative info there.  I do wish, myself, that I new a little more about the surgery before I went ahead with it.The surgeon said if there is a problem with burping, then one must go back to the dr to have a check up.  I went for one about a year ago to see if everything was still okay.  One must really relax when one eats aswell, not eat fast and not eat a lot.  I was also not told that I wouldn't be able to vomit after the surgery which really ticked me off as I too, would have investigated the options a little more.  I mean, that is your bodies natural reaction to expel anything which your body sees as danger.  Hope you get sorted.
