Nocturnal Acid Reflux

Hi I am having severe acidity during night time......i am not able to sleep properly because of this problem....When i sleep on the  left side, i feel little bit relaxed but i am facing this problem since last six months......I take proton pump inhibitors at night times but do you think these medications are permanent solutions....Pls give me some remedy...

Yes, the PPI's work fairly well but are not foolproof.  Other important things to do in addition:  don't eat or drink within four hours of going to bed; don't bend over after eating; try to avoid spicy foods, tomato sauce, chocolate, mint, and alcohol; elevate the head of your bed or buy a specially designed wedge type pillow.  If you've added weight, try to lose that and don't wear tight fitting clothes.  All these things seem like a big pain but remember that acid reflux over a long period of time can do some major damage to the esophagus, so it's important to control even if the symptoms are not yet severe.

If this is happening every day I would go see a G.I. doctor. They might want to put you on a high dose of omeprozole (prilosec) for several months to help your stomach return back to normal.
