Numbness in the right diaphragm area

by JayShelton, Aug 10, 2009 11:55AM
I'm not sure if I have GERD or not - I'm trying to figure out what's going on.  My chest is fairly tender to the touch at the base of my sternum, and it burns, although not unbearably, periodically.  And I have some numbness (constantly) on the right side of my stomach below my rib cage.  At night when I lie down, it feels as if I have a weight on my diaphragm.  Could this be GERD or what?  The numbness is scaring me.  Thanks.

Hi,  really hard to tell and or diagnose online and want to mention we are patients on the community.  Could or do you have any history of gallbladder along with reflux?  Just a thought to ask your Dr.

Hi,
I have slightly similar conditions. In my case i can feel mild tingling occasionally below the ribcage ( in the diaphragm area) on the right side. I also had cramps a couple of times when i bend. I do have acid reflex and am on medication for over 4 years for reflux. I considered surgery for reflex in the last couple of months and decided to loose some weight and see if that solves the problem. My BMI is 24-25. I did not have this problem (reflux) when my BMI was 21-22.
I think you can go thru the motility and 24 hr PH tests to identify acid reflux and proceed from there. Though i went thru other tests much earlier for reflux, these two gave me more info on my condition than others.
