Pain in the Chest Area

by hotmamma898, Oct 23, 2008 01:36PM
I have recently began having problems with heartburn this year. About two weeks ago it's gotten a lot worse and nothing i take or do makes it better. I have severe chest pain and it feels like my chest is being ripped open. At times the pain is so severe that i have trouble breathing. I'm not sure what's going on but i was wondering if it might be GERD. How would you know? Thanks!

Hi,
This could be GERD.
24 hours pH monitoring test would be helpful in diagnosing it.

EKG has to be done to rule out heart disease.
Respiratory problems can also cause chest pain and breathing problems. A chest x-ray would be helpful to rule out respiratory problems.
