Pain in the abdominal (reflux)

For many years I suffer from a pain in the upper point  of the abdominal, quite often I also have a feeling of acidity in the stomach, during recent months is also cause me phlegm and a mild cough.

It is already for many years.
About 20 years ago I have been diagnosed for ulcer in the duodenum and I had been treated by Zantac, but that had not been diagnosed again during the last 10 years although that I have made some tests.

I made an endoscopy about 2 years ago with few biopsies taken, everything was found ok except a mild gastritis.

I also had major complains until about 1 year ago about sort of IBS attacks which were very severe, treatment with acupuncture proved to be very helpful for me to deal with the IBS and actually I have almost no IBS attacks since I begun with the acupuncture.

Still I suffer a lot from the pain in the upper-middle point of the abdominal. I have tried several medicines for that: Losec (Omperazol) does not help at all, the pain is more often comes during morning hours, eating always relax the pain and after lunch it feels much better, Coffee always cause a flare-up of this pain.  Anti-acid tablets such as Tums help very  little and for a very short time.

Recently I found things that help much more to eliminate this pain and feel better:
1) Famotidine – I don’t know what it does but it helps.
2) Rice porridge – help a lot, actually it instantly eliminate the pain, I have herd that some call in Congi and that it is very familiar in the Chinese medicine.
My questions are:
1) How those 2 things help ?
2) Is there any risk with the use of Famotidine for  long time ?

I would be pleased for more information from experience.
Thank you,
Jack

You can use famotidine for a long time with no consequence, and if this is making you feel better, then stick with it. There is no danger in famotidine; I have taken Zantac 150 twice a day for years. And when I don't take it, I sure wish I had!
