Periodic Regurgitation and Constant Pain

Our 17 year old daughter has had severe heartburn like pain for the past six months, combined with about 5 bouts of 2-3 days of being unable to hold down any food or water (even saliva).  Her ped gastro doc originally thought this was gastritis connected to use of NSAIDs and prescribed Nexium 40 mg.  However, over the next few months, she continued having problems, even though she was no longer taking any NSAIDs.  The regurgitation comes in bouts, and sometimes will last so long she requires IV fluids to rehydrate.  Also, she will have bouts of burbing, "bubbling," and severe pain that will precede a flare of the regurgitation, but sometimes these will subside without going into the regurgitation flare.  The regurgitation is completely unresponsive to Phrengren and Zofran.  An endoscopy done at the beginning of all this showed some eosinophills in her stomach, but an endoscopy done a few weeks ago didn't show any eosinophills.  No barium study or other tests (other than the two endoscopies) have been done.  This is extremely frustrating - the doctor just seems content to wait around and see what happens.  We have also tried increasing the Nexium to twice a day and adding 150 mg of Zantac, but nothing helps.  There also don't seem to be any foods that trigger the problem, nor is the problem aggrevated by stress.  Our daughter describes the regurgitation as being mechanical - food/fluid just comes back up 3-4 minutes after she swallows without nausea or warning.  The severe pain is bad enough and interferes with her sleep and activities, but the regurgitation keeps her from being able to concentrate in school.  If the regurgitation is "slower," she is able to swallow it again after it comes to her mouth.  But in a flare, it comes up too fast and even small amounts will just come right back again after she re-swallows them.  Any help/suggestions you can offer will be helpful.

It sounds like you need a new gastroenterologist as these are significant symptoms.
