Persistent sore throat

I've had a sore throat for around 8 months so far, I have been to three ENT doctors, and a gastroenterologist and have made no progress to find relief. Currently I am taking two 40 mg tablets of protonix, three times a day. I've had an endoscopy, which only confirmed that I don't have barret's. I've also had an upper GI series performed that indicated a sliding hiatal hernia but was not found during the endoscopy. A gastrin blood test shows that I do not produce much acid. I take a heavy course of antacids, which if I did not, my sore throat would be way worse and I would feel a sour taste at the back of my mouth. I know that my sore throat is likely due to acid reflux, but given that I don't produce much acid and the endoscopy showed no physical defect in my esophagus to cause acid to come up, my question is, what could possibly be causing my sore throat? Or is there any other condition that causes chronic sore throat

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Have you been checked for a thyroid issue? That too, can cause a sore throat....reflux can cause it as well....and by modifying your diet and life style can help calm the symptoms.

do you think you could have some type of bacterial overgrowth or infection .maybe get a throat swab done?
