Please help - too much or too little acid?

I was diagnosed with "silent reflux" by my gastroenterologist a little over a year ago.  Was put on 20 mg. of prilosec.  Experienced a lot of belching and a feeling of a lump in my throat so it was increased to 40 mg.  Symptoms went away.  About a month ago my prescription plan changed and I was switched over to 40 mg. of generic omeprazole and didn't have any issues for several weeks.  This past week the belching and feeling of the lump in my throat has come back.  It usually starts about 1/2 to 1 hour after taking the omeprazole.  I've noticed that drinking a glass of wine will make it go away which doesn't make sense since wine is acidic.  Is this typical acid reflux?  Any suggestions other than to keep drinking wine?

Hi Marcij1,
Feeling of  lump in the throat is one of the symptoms of GERD.
Alcohol worsens the symptoms of GERD.
For confirmation of GERD 24 hours pH monitoring can be done.

Pardon my intrustion as I am not a doctor but a fellow Silent Reflux sufferer.  I have also suffered from anxiety which can give you that lump in the throat sensation as well.  My theory is that you are anticipating that unpleasant feeling and maybe that causes anxiety which is relieved by the glass of wine.  I wish you the best of luck in finding a solution to your problem.

Hi Marjil1,
Unless the lump in the throat causes difficulty in swallowing or difficulty in breathing you need not worry about it.

Whether it is a real lump or a functional one,  can be made out with an endoscopy.
