Post Appendectomy Heartburn

I have just been discharged from hospital following an emergency appendectomy and also a right ovarian cystectomy.
My operation had some complications at the end, when I stopped breathing after being woken from the general anaesthetic, and had to be intubated. I was put on a PCA (morphine drip) and stayed on this for 4 days. I was also puton IV metronidazole and gentimicin for 2 days as the doctor thought I had a mild infection (which I didn't).
So I was discharged 2 days later.
During my time in hospital, I did not eat for 6 days, and anything I tried to eat (on the 5th day), I vomited. I have since managed to eat small meals at home and have not vomited.
I have been suffering since about day 4 post op with awful heartburn, it occurs at all times during the day. I am not drinking or eating anything that can cause heartburn.

Please tell me why this is, I am getting a little concerned!

Hi...sounds like ur issue is from the meds/drugs used while in hospital...I have a hiatal hernia and my reflux was worsened by the meds as well.

DO talk to ur dr about a OTC med that can assist u in feeling better while the effects of the meds wear off.

Also see the list of foods to avoid so as not to trigger it into making u feel worse.
