Prontonix side effects

I was told I had GERD about 9 months ago and put on Protonix 40mg once a day for a month. I went off Protonix and symptoms came back so I was placed back on the medicine and given numerous presciption refills. Around the same time I started to have facial numbness on my left side. Was sent for numerous tests and to a neurologist (Blood work, MRI of brain, CT of abdomen, EMG, endoscopy and colonoscopy)  all were OK. I was told there was no clear diagnosis for my numbness. About a month ago GERD symptoms got much worse and Dr doubled my Protonix to 80mg a day, 40 before breakfast and 40 before dinner. Facial numbness got 10 times worse, I stopped taking Protonix 48 hours ago and numbness seems to have subsided, but GERD is back with a vengence! Has anyone ever had this side effect from Protonix?

HI...I cannot speculate on teh numbness, but have heard about the rebound effect if u stop taking meds for gerd to quickly......u need to taper off.

Is the dr overseeing u on this med a GI dr?....or a PCP?
