Return of GERD after Surgery

by gigi4748, Jul 30, 2009 06:54AM
Does Nissan Fundoplication Surgery work? Can the surgery become undone (the stomach tie release over time)?
Can the surgical site become infected over time?

I had Nissan Fundoplication Surgery to take care of my severe GERD. This was done in December of 2007. It worked for a while, about 6 months, and now does not work at all. I have been prescribed 2 Aciphex and 2 Zantac tablets a day. This is more medication than what I was taking before the surgery.

Has anyone had a similiar experience with this surgery? Does anyone know any other solutions to this problem?

I would like to add that I have had my gall bladder removed. This was done prior to the Nissan. I now experience a lot of indigestiion, heart burn, and gas and bloating. Can this mean surgery did not work, came undone?
Any ideas from anyone with similiar experience would be greatly appreciated.

You may have what I have as far as symptons of gerd.  But after seeing an internist and being told to take Malic Acid prior to or during meals and taking Digestive Enzymes just after the meal my heartburn and acid have disappeared.  My problem seems to be due to a lack of acid and or enzyme production by my body therefore not breaking down my food and thus creating the gerd symptoms.  Good Luck!

Hi. You'll really need to consider changing your diet.  That's what has helped me.  No wheat, sugar, dairy, coffee.  Biggest is the sugar and wheat.  Try that first and see if it helps.  I don't take any medication as I know what triggers my health.  You'll need to do the elimination test.  Listen to your body.
