I've had GERD as long as I can remember, but I'd never really had a lot of problems from it.  About a year and a half ago I got to a point where I felt like I couldn't breathe and had SEVERE shortness of breath for about 9 months.  Finally the we decided it was being caused by the GERD, so I was started on Protonix.  It has helped a lot, but I still feel tightness in my throat and have shortness of breath a lot.  If the Protonix hasn't prevented my symptoms, does that mean it's not really GERD causing the problem?  I follow most of the lifestyle changes I've seen posted on this forum, but is there anything else I could try?

Hi...wondering what tests were done to rule out other issues?....did u have a PH test?...u can have symptoms of gerd, too much acid and really have too little as u would feel the same.

Also, if u were checked for a hiatal hernia and other  GI related conditions, u may also want to include a test for the Gall Bladder.

And lastly, do have tests done for ur thyroid.......there r many conditions with the same symptoms and only by ur dr running the tests can u know for sure.
