Small quantity of blood in vomit, cause/treatment?

by Absinte, Mar 16, 2009 01:21PM
I have been suffering from Acid Reflux for the past year or two. I am no longer taking medications for it, either prescription or OTC, but treat it between 2-4 times a week with a small quantity of apple cider vinegar and baking soda mixed with water. (Which seems to do the trick rather nicely.)
A couple of nights ago, I had some bad chinese food and spent the night being very ill, and during the latter part of the night there was a small quantity of blood in my vomit. I have never encountered this before, and the last time I can remember vomiting was well over 5 years ago. I have not been ill since, but my throat is still a bit tender and my chest in the area of my sternum is very tender. Was the blood in my vomit possibly just brought about due to the amount of retching caused by the food poisoning, or should I go see my doctor? Or is it possible that it was something other than blood? (I have health insurance, I just have an extreme dislike of doctors and would prefer not to go if it's unlikely that anything is actually wrong.)
Any input would be much appreciated.
