What causes spontaneous gagging?

I have this problem that every now and then I feel nausea and start to gag or retch (as it seems to be called) . What could cause this problem? Some say its GERD and others say its acid problems. What do you say?

What is PPI? Also, can acid reflux cause this problem?

I am having spontaneous reflux? not sure what causes it I need relief. Medication isn't helping.  I want to protect my esophagus from damage?  what variouse diseases or situation causes this I what other options can give me life some relief.  I invonluntary cough up acid. I had an esophgram they saw the reflux, instaneous came back from the les or spincter area.  please give me some clues as to what can be causing this.  I have had EDG didnt realize my doctor didn't take biospy. He knows that I have been having sympton for some time.  this is a second apionion at a teaching hospital.  PH probe. THE spontaneous reflux comes and goes, lasting 10 to 15 days.  O am aware of the complications of prolong exposure to acid in the esophagus.  

please give me some insight.

Nausea and retching can occur due to a number of different reasons. It could be due to diseases involving the abdomen, nervous system, metabolic disorder, infections, drugs etc.

Abdominal problems especially peptic ulcer disease are common causes.
PPI might be helpful.
