What does GERD feel like?

I've been having issues for months. I'm a 37 year old female who was in generally good health until about 7 months ago. I ended up in the ER because I was having heart palpitations. The ER couldn't find anything wrong, and after 2 different cardiologists, two holter monitors, many EKGs and an Echocardiogram, it was determined that I have "harmless" skipped beats (PVCs or PACs). I also had really bad tension headaches for the first time ever at the beginning of this year, which was pretty much resolved with PT.  I still get a stiff neck every once in a while.

Anyway I was learning to live with the skipped beats, but about a week ago, I got a sharp pain in my belly that went into my chest, like right between my breasts. It only lasted for about 2 minutes, but ever since then, I've been getting occasional achey pains in my chest. My arms were even achey earlier this week but seem to be ok now.

I went to the doctor on Friday and they ran an EKG that at first had a "weird wave" but ran another one that was normal, and I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux and given Zegerid. Except--I don't have a burning sensation. I though indigestion and GERD was supposed to burn? I'm just getting an achey feeling in my chest. Sometimes my ribs hurt. Sometimes my back hurts. It's always an ache though, not a burn. Full disclosure: I also have anxiety, but this achey chest is new for me.

Thanks.

I am new to this forum. After reading the comments this is the first which mentions LPR.  I have suffered from this for six months.  I also have never felt the burn.  I have continual mucus streaming behind my nose which is impossible to spit out.  Lump in the throat, etc. all the classic symptons. Sleep is disturbed.  I thought it was an allergy and took Claritin which did not help  I had the test and found out I have no allergies.  I had to wait 5 weeks to get an ENT appt.  As things were getting worse  Tuesday I started Omeprozole 20 mg which had been prescribed for my Gastritis last year but never took as I felt so much better.  .  I know this is only the third day but the relief seems to cycle on and off.  No way it lasts the whole 24 hrs.  Is this normal?   Is there anyone else with LPR?

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Not all types of reflux cause one to feel heart burn....LPR is one such type, often called Silent Reflux since not every one feels the burn from it.

Anxiety can trigger reflux symptoms.....so do try to relax to help calm the symptoms.
