I had two surgery's in less then a week as was in hospital recovering from a infection aswel. After surgery number 2 all of a sudden of got pains in my chest. I find out fom my doctor that i have acid reflux. But the only trouble i cannot eat anything because its very painful. If i do eat i can only eat a few mouthfuls. I was given medication aswel as pain killers to help but they don't seem to be helping. Is it normal not to eat?

Hi,
Pain during swallowing is due to esophagitis.
Since it occurred after surgery the possible causes are acid reflux, infection, pill induced.
Endoscopy may be done to confirm it.
If esophagitis is confirmed a course of PPi may be taken.

Not sure what medicines the MD gave you, but do not take the meds for very long. I have been on them for 5yrs and have had every side effect listed on the little package insert that you can imagine. Hopefully they go away after I have my reflux surgery. I would recommend having an endoscopy done with bravo so they can see if it is truly reflux or just acid from anxiety. I am not a doctor, just a patient.....unfortunately..
