asthma related?

For the last 3 1/2 weeks i have had symptoms of dry cough,to dry harsh cough, to harsh flemy cough,which then turned to waking to cough with trouble catching my breath after a few coughs. this had gotten worse in the last week. i am a 48 yr old female.  in my early twenties i had bulimia for 5 years. then upon becoming pregnant at age 37 i developed acid reflux,to this day i have it but control it with high alkaline diet. could please give your opinion on this delemma of mine. my doctor does not know what is wrong with me. she gave me an inhaler which does help.sincerely Theresa in chicago
