Hi Pat,

The lump in your throat might be what the GI and ENT docs call globus. When I was first diagnosed with GERD 7-8 years ago, I suffered from this annoying symptom. After going on a high dosage of PPI, 40mg/day twice/day, the sensation of having a lump in my throat gradually went away. It took a few weeks.

I assume you're on a PPI of some kind?

The chest pain might also be caused by GERD. I, coincidentally, just visited my cardiologist to have some tests done because of frightening chest pain I was experiencing. All of the tests came back negative for any kind of heart disease or blockage. So it's most likely that the chest pain I had was referred pain from the GERD (I also have Barrett's) or chronic tension in my muscles and tendons in my chest because I sit at a computer a lot and don't have the best posture.

I would check in with your GI to report your symptoms. S/he may want to adjust your meds and/or do a routine upper endoscopy to make sure all is well. For the chest pain, it would be good to talk to your GP about this. They should be able to do an EKG and have you do blood work to make sure you don't have anything going on cardo-wise.

Good luck.

HI and welcome Pat.

I am not familiar with barrets esophageus only that it is a result of prolonged reflux. And those with it are in a higher % of getting cancer.
Ur dr should be keeping a close eye on u and ur condition.

As for the lump and chest pain....well it is possible the cheat pain is a result of gerd that has not cleared.
The lump..is it visible?...or something u feel or does it feel like it may be a lump.....that can also be related to the gerd.

Most important is u need to be seen by ur GI dr.
Rule out a heart condition...thyroid issues...Hashimoto's thyroiditis u develop nodules in the thyroid and it is an autoimmune disorder.

Please update us after u get an answer from ur dr.
