can i take sleeping pills

hi there every1, i have been living with gerd for past year it affects my sleep for past 4 nights i have had 4 hours sleep where i keep waking up cos i have to catch my brethe because of the acid built up.it has affected my whole lifestyle and work,i just wanted to know would it be ok to take sleeping pills eg temazepan when i can not sleep on these terrible nights. plz help..........

Yes, it can lead to cancer if left untreated and if u have a family history u have a stronger inclination for it too.......

Not everyone gets heartburn that has reflux,....there is one called silent reflux.....

SO regardless if u have heartburn ....if u have reflux symptoms u should see a dr for  it and get treatment.

is it true if left untreated u can get some sort of cancer? i do not get heartburn just bad mucus buid up in me mouth and a itch at the back of the throat.thanks alot for the help and advice you are providing selmas.

Hi ..yes, sorry LES = lower esophageal sphincter...which is the opening to ur stomach...if it is slow it can allow the reflux to occur.

Dairy products can slow down this valve/muscle.....so avoiding dairy later in the day can help....especially if u have a motility issue.

A dr can best tell u what is going on with u after a  exam and testing, but it does sound like that....so u can elevate the head of ur bed to also help the situation until u see the dr and it is advised to continue to sleep with the bed elevated for best results.

If left untreated there r a number of other issues u may have to deal with....so do see ur dr and get a dx and treatment.Most times u can get relief from meds, but depending on what the real issue is...it may take awhile.,

thanks for the reply,could you tell me wat les means? and when i do get out of breathe and wake up it takes me foreva to get back to sleep is that wat acid reflux does or could it be something elso wrong with me i have just had my breathe done and am waiting for results,is dis gerd curable/

HI....u need to discuss this with ur dr...in the meantime elevate the head of ur bed by 4 to 6 inches so u r sleeping on an incline.This will keep the acid down where it belongs. Also do not eat for 3 to 4 hours prior to lying down.

Avoid dairy later in the day as it can slow the motility of ur LES and that will allow the acids to flow back up where u do not want it.

There r some meds that can cause u even more acid, so b4 starting ne meds even OTC meds see ur dr.
