fluttering in chest when swallowing.

Hello,
Afew mothes ago, I began to notice everytime I would eat solid foods, when I would swallow,I would have a "fluttering" and a feeling of "heavyiness" in my upper chest. I now have that same feeling when I drink as well, and is much more intense, I now have also started losing my breath when I swallow. It doesn't hurt to sallow nor does it feel like anything gets stuck, just the fluttering, heavyiness and lost of breath for a few seconds.Nor have I had any type of heartburn, some burping tho.
I am a 50 yr. old female on disability (medicare) with no other insurance, live alone with no other support and cannot afford to go the the doctor.Has anyone else had any of these symptoms? Need advice as what to do, as now at times I am starting to have these same sensations even when not swallowing food or drink. Thanks for all replies.

Hello, I had the same systems about a month ago and didn't know what was going on. I got to the point one day I couldn't get liquids to go down let a lone any food. Thank God I do have insurance  so the doctor admitted me into the hospital and they found out that I have a hital hernia. I knew what it was because  my mother and grandmother has had it for many years.  My Hital hernia has been untreated for a while so the acid started to attack my esphogaus and giving me the pain in my chest feels like my food is stuck .. I am on a medicine called Protonix right now but it 's not helping as much as I thought it would. I was told by my mom that the doctors will play around with the medicine until they find the one that works for you . I was also informed that changing my diet  will help as well.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Many with gerd have described a swollowing issue....and u do not need to have heart burn for it to be GERD.

There r many conditions that can cause these issues, thyroid issues can give some of the same feelings.Stress can add to this sensation of flutterings.

There is a list of lifestyle changes that may help if indeed this is a gerd issue.....please see our health pages and u will find the list there.

Also there r OTC meds that may help u.....u take 2 wks and off 2 wks....and if u do both the lifestyle changes and the OTC meds u may see a diff.

If not, u really should see a dr.
