gerd? choking while falling asleep

I have been diagnosed with GERD (only once of twice a year does food actually come up), but I never had an upper GI for more accurate testing.  Sometimes when I fall asleep about 15-20 minutes later I wake up, feeling something is stuck in my throat, but nothing is, or I feel like I'm choking.  Much of the time I almost immediately get massive diarreha and even though it is quite scarey and I'm shaking, at least I can breathe better.  Rarely can I get a good burb up to relieve the problem, it's sort of like a slow release of gas needs to go through my whole system, intestines, stomach and up the esophagus.  Gas is just trying to find some way out.   I also have IBS at times, but much of that surprisingly was relieved two years ago when I started using prilosec and stopped drinking milk products.  I have a $1,000 deductible for the new health insurance I'm on and I'm waiting for the new year before I start getting tested.  That is why I haven't gone to the doctor with thes emore recent occurrences.

Hi,
You have symptoms of both GERD and IBS.
Relief with Prilosec itself is an indication that some of the symptoms are due to increased acid and reflux.
Confirmation is usually done with 24 hours pH monitoring test.
