Hi Pete, my name is actually Angela, but it was already taken, so I tacked on the J from my middle name! Unfortunately with GERD, there are no quick fixes, but my husband has the best results using multiple approaches to address the various symptoms, including aloe juice. It doesn't have to be aloe, but "green" juices seem to help him a lot with the burping, gas and nausea that accompany this disease. Because he has a hiatal hernia, the minute he lays flat, the burping and reflux starts unless he drinks his green drink before bed. It seems to break up trapped gas even better than antacids do. My husband had the same issues with feeling better when eating, then the dreaded after effects. It didn't seem to matter what he ate or when, it just always wanted to come back up. He also thought he had an ulcer, but didn't. However, if you do have an ulcer, aloe juice will help it to heal. Here is how charcoal works- It acts like a sponge to sop up anything left in your stomach after a meal should have passed thru, including acid and gas. It is so effective that they use it in the ER on people who have overdosed on drugs to clean it out of their systems. The only caveat is to not take it with a meal or with medicines as it will soak up that up too. Good luck!

hey thanks selma and jangela thats a cool name..I have tried aloe and it seems like a quick fix  I have  not  been eating any junk or any thing that could make it worse Im actually starting to think it might be an ulcer as ive been stressed out for a couple months, and when I take tums and other antacids they do not seem to work at all..i just feel better when i eat and then it burns hours later, i cant see a doc cause im uninsurred so thats not an option

would charcoal help an ulcer if it is it?

Hi Pete, you can read what I wrote to Carrie. Basically, like Selma says, sleep with your head elevated, and to cut down on the damage when acid does wash up, "neutralize" it before laying down by drinking a little aloe juice or wheatgrass juice from the health food store. My husband also swears by activated charcoal capsules from same store. He takes a couple any time reflux threatens with stellar results. Also drink kefir and/or eat plain yogurt every day. (Soothing on the GI tract and replaces good bacteria for optimal digestion.) My husband had horrible reflux for many years. He is now med free and even eats tomatoes and hot sauce! Just be consistent in taking these suggested supplements every day. Oh, also broad spectrum digestive enzymes taken with each meal help considerably.
