help until I get my upper endo

by Paulie73, Jun 20, 2009 01:06AM
I have been living with controled acid reflux for a while now, but suddenly it is out of control. I have acid that turns on like a faucet in my throat, making me cough, gag and choke.  This happens especially at night but has even plaqued me throughout the day as of late.  My throat hurts all the time, my voice is barely there and I cough up flem (phlegm) and bile on a regular basis.  I know about the elevated head, the not eating before bed and I am already taking double doses of the most potent acid drugs.  I have an consult for a upper endo scheduled for July 7th, but is there anything that I can do in the meantime to be a little more comfortable?

HI and welcome to the GERD forum.

U may want to avoid dairy and some other foods.....there are many foods that can cause an overproduction of acid.Try and relax  as stress and anxiety can also add to the production of acid.

The Health Pages here on MedHelp have tips on the foods that r safe and foods to avoid...u can access the pages with the icon above the recent activities to the right of the screen or the welcome message links at the top of the forum.

Please keep us posted on ur progress
