how do i really know for sure that i do/don't have barretts?

i was diagnosed with barretts oesophegus last year by a gastro, and recently went and seeked second opinion with another doctor, after the gastroscopy he said that he could not find barretts however there was about 2 cm of zig zaggy shaped lining and mild inflammation. i have been told that barretts does not go away once you have it, so right now im confused and dont know who to believe and what to do. does someone have any suggestions?

The Z line is the boundary line between the stomach and esophagus. An irregularity there is suggestive of esophigitis (aka heartburn) particularly a severe form called Barrett's. However it is also found in a fair number of people without evidence of anything in particular being wrong. The antrum is part of the stomach. Erythema is redness and petechiae is focal bleeding spots. These findings suggest but by NO means are conclusive for, an ulcer.

hi thanx for ur reply regarding my question. both doctors performed gastroscopy and both had biopsies and lab reports. one report confirmed barretts and the other one an irregular z lined shape on my oesaphegus. i really don't know which one to trust, my gut feeling tells me something is wrong coz ive suffered from stomach problems for over 10 years now. right now im so confused and it's really mentally affecting me, i just want to be sure so i can treat my condition approperaitely, i mean if i do have barretts then i really have to be careful and if i dont have it then i want to put my mind at ease and stop worrying so much.

Hi...may I ask, did both perform the same test to get this dx?

And , Drs do make mistakes.....and many times a dx is sometimes based on opinion and not fact...so do be sure they r doing testing and giving u factual dx's.

I was told once, that I did not have a brain tumor...and I wondered how the dr could make that statement with out ne testing?.....so look at what tests r done, then listen to ur gut as to which dr u r more comfortable with and trust.
