I have all the symptoms of a heart condition but it is the hernia: difficulty breathing, chest pain, fatigue, Acid reflux is under control. Does any surgery work? I have heard fibrocation is only option, that Nissen has been found ineffective. I teach college but not sure how long I can continue symptoms are that severe.
I had the Nissen Fundoplication surgery to repair a large hiatal hernia last year, and it was a complete success. My research prior to the procedure demonstrated a very hugh success rate and satisfaction level (90%+), but it seems if the procedure isn't done correctly or post op dietary directions aren't followed, one can be pretty uncomfortable.
I talked with several surgeons prior to the procedure and chose one with lots of experience and a strong reputation. After the procedure I was very careful with my diet, I think a liquid diet for two weeks, then soft food in small amounts for a month, and very gradually went back to a normal diet by month three, but in smaller amounts per meal.
I had developed some very harsh problems from acid reflux, including vocal chord and tooth enamel erosion. All symptoms disappeared after the procedure.
You are correct that GERD can mimic heart trouble. I've had both, have eight heart stents, a pacemaker, two heart attacks. A bad GERD attack put me the emergency room, it fooled me. I assume you have had a heart stress test and Echo to eliminate heart problem, and an Endoscopy to determine a Hiatal Hernia problem.
I'd procede with confidence with the Nissen Procedure, but choose your surgeon carefully.
