lower chest pain

My husband has been having random  pain in his lower chest. It comes and goes throughout the day. the only thing that relieves the pain is taking a deep breath to relax the chest. Will not go to the Dr. thinks it is just gas.

2.How long does it seems to be troubling him?
3.When does the pain troubles him like after a great effort to climb stairs,work out or something else?
4.What else would he do to get rid of that pain other than taking a deep breath like taking rest for some time or stopping the work?
5.Does he have any problem in taking air?
6.Does the pain seems to be worsening if there is any change in position?
7.Any other symptoms associated with it are to be observed.
8.Does he smoke or drink?What kind of diet does he usually take?
