pain immediately below sternum...
Hello,
I have suffered from a dull to relatively intense pain right below my sternum for a number of years.  In the past, I was prescribed acid reflux medication and have also been placed on anxiety meds.  My question is whether or not the pain I feel is muscle related or something more serious?  I do often have lower back pain.  Recently, when I was on vacation, I noticed that I didn't have the pain, but I had it the very first day back to work.  I sometimes apply Icy-Hot to the general area and the pain seems to go away...any suggestions.

Hi,
A simple test will help to know whether it is muscle related.
Just lie down straight and raise only your head. If the pain gets worsened, then it is muscle related. If not, it is from inside the abdomen or functional.
But I would say that examination by a doctor would be the appropriate option to find the cause.
