palpitations related to vagus, and hiatus hernia

by sheila41, Jul 26, 2009 02:30AM
To  Phillys976.
Hello, yes I have serious rapid heart palpitations, I think that would be the correct term, there are so many types of palps. Mine is racing to the point where I can only lay down and do nothing.  Had the tests, bought the t-shirt,......
Anyhow they are terryfiing, and I have been rushed to hospital many times.  Nothing wrong apparently.  But, mine do seem to c ome on after a heavy carbo.meal and then trying to walk around, or do something (only mildly strenuous). It makes me so frightened of going out for lunch or anything, as if you are will a girlfriend shopping, then of course after lunch or coffee then you get up and walk - perfectly normal.  But not for me.

As for the  "give up coffee" theory - well as I have posted on the Heart Palpitations site, I personally think this is an excuse for doctors to give you an explanation, when they have none.  It gets you out of their surgery, dosn't it.
Think of all the  coffee and French and Italians drink, much stronger and lethal than ours, and yet they drink it all day. Also think of Turkish coffee!!!!!!!!
We only consume a small amount (mostly instant) of coffee - it is a natural products, whereas drugs are not.
It's like when we were told that butter was bad for us - but manufactured spreads were "good" -  pull the other one - please!!!!!!

I was once told by an older doc. sadley now retired, when I had these symptoms, but only once at that time, that there is a nerve that goes from the stomache down the left arm, as I had a pain down there as well as the stomache problem and palps. I didn't take a lot of notice, it was only I thought a one off occurence.   Well now many years later, and palpitations developing etc. I remember his words
I do wish we could all rally together and find somewhere, that has a doc. who actually knows about this vagus nerve and is a specialisg.   Best  wishes   Sheila  41

Wow.

I just stumbled across your thread and all of my symptoms just came together.

I am 30 and have been experiencing hiatal hernia symptoms for some time.

Approximately 9 months ago, I was lifting some heavy equipment, and my symptoms got much more pronounced there after.

I have the general discomfort in the sternum area. It's exasserbated by frequently squatting / bending / etc, when I eat too fast / too much, when I lay down after eating.

I began experiencing pain, numbness, etc in my left arm - starting at my shoulder / chest and moving toward my hand.

I've seen my general doc and been rushed to the ER over assumed heart-related issues. I thought I was having a heart attack a month ago, it was horrible.

I have been experiencing increased sore throat / mouth (reflux symptoms) as of late.

Due to the left arm / chest symptoms - I've had 2x nuclear treadmill stress tests with gamma imaging over the past year due to assumed heart issues. Both turned up perfectly clean. A ton of urine / bloodwork checking for everything from HIV to Diabetes. to TB.

Have you made any progress in finding a specialist?
