recently diag. with GERD !!!!!

Hello all i was just recently diag. with GERD . but they are also thinking there might be a hiatal hernia causing it . ive noticed i have a patterern with it . and it lasts about 2-3 wks. then goes away .  first ill get pains ,and like a burning sensation on my left side that radiates to the back . then ill get real bad heartburn/ indagestion for 2 days that it feels like ive drank a bottle of vodka . then ill get bad chest pains like im having a heart attack . but all through this ill have gas , burping , and alot of buking  ((( blahhh )))  and  bloating feeling.

Anyone else have all this  with GERD ?  i mean is the pain on my left side between the hip and ribcage has anything to do with a hernia ?  doc thinks its a torn muscle but i dont see how , i dont do anything that  causes those type of things . i  mean the pain wraps around toward my back and spine . is it poss. that something may be in there  making it hurt all around on my left side ?

Hi...post nasal drip can cause gerd/reflux....so u may have allergies and teh drainage could be the reason u r having the gerd.

See and ENT for that and let us know what u find out.

Hello again , i was just reading about the prilosec forum someone posted on here  , mine is a prescription one  is there a diff. between that and the over the counter one?  and he has 5 other refills for me too . each being 30 days worth .

also i think i may have some sort of cold or something , i have been clearing my throat lately coughing up some brownish phlegm . and now its yellowish brown with blood in it .  and last night i felt like i was getting a funny feeling in my throat and pressure in my head and eyes.  see yesterday my step daughter was taring down her kitchen in her house and remodling and she went to suck up all the dirt,dust ect. and when she did the back to the vac wasnt on and it blew all the dust and stuff my way , the whole kitchen looked like a big dust cloud. i could taste the dust and all nasty blahh . Anyways  could that trigger  anything thats goeing on with me , cause at first i thought it was this meds poss making me cough like that and its not really a cough more like i gotta clear my throat constantly . i have been getting upper resp infections lately in the past cpl  yrs , same with sinus probs ect and he thinks i have asthma  also . so far i havent really had the need to use my inhaler . had a few ppl say i may have broncitus . Anyways i was just a lil curious with the meds .

Wow u were teeny tiny...goodness.

Nething that affects ur digestive tract can affect overall health, so yeah it is a health issue, but the sooner it is addressed u can avoid other related issues from happening.

U r on the right path giving up smoking...good for u !!

A GI dr can help with a colonioc cleasing...do not try to do it at home...see a dr for this, but it is a good way to get it all out.

Yes thats what he thinks it may be , cause my whole ribcage was  tender to touch and all .

See when i was born i was almost 3 months early , i only weighed  1 lb 6oz and had to stay in the hospt. for 3 months . i had partial colasped lung ,  i had a heart defect(PDA) which corrected itself , and heart murmurs . but after 3 months i was good to go home , but then after i came home i ended back in the hospt with real bad phnemonia  and stopped breathing .  then affter that really never had any other health probs , until now . which prob arent really health probs .  or are they? Anyways im stll young , and prob just need to lose weight and eat healthy and yes i agree with the toxins  i prob do have alot of toxin in my body . and  i really dont know how long it will take for them to all get out of my body. its been almost 3 months now since i stopped smoking .

well u deff have a bowel issue and I suggest u talk to ur dr about adding fiber to ur diet or mayb even a  gentile laxative like senekot...u need to get ur intestines moving correctly and u will begin to feel sooooooooooo much better.Being impacted can push on a hernia, can push on ur lungs...ur vagus nerve....and they r all toxins so u will be fatigued as well.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of a rib or the cartilage
connecting a rib. It is a common cause of chest pain....is that what ur dr said?

Yeah that happened a long time ago though when i was like a kid and teenager.  now im almost 34 . And no i dont go every day more like every other day and sometimes i go 2 to 3x and day but thats not often i do that.  atm thoough the pain has dulled to were i barely feel it , and each time i do get these episodes they get worse and last for about 2-3 wks  then dulls off !  and its so hard to pin point where exactly the pain is coming from , i dunno if its my back , or my side or my ribs ! i know my doc did say i may  have costocon something or other lol . dont know the whole name lol  but its arthritis in the ribcage joints . this is what he is thinking not what he actually diag. me with !!! also with the asthma .  also with the torn muscle  i mean can  i tare the same muscle so many times in the last 3  yrs  in the same spot ?

Ntm i also had a hysterectomy 2 yrs ago because i had fibroid tumors and precancerous cells in my cervix . so the only thing left is my ovaries . and i have a 2 cm cyst on my right ovary . and prior  to that when i was 21 i had a tubal done .  my doc has thought it was a kidney stones , he found nothing , he thought it  was poss a cyst on my left ovary , no finding , except the 2cm one on my right ovary which is use to be 1cm .

one time which i really think i might of passed a stone , is because i went to go use the potty and when i went to go i felt this sharp pain, which stopped me from going and felt  like my bladder and everything else was dropping out of me , i turned pale , and felt my bp drop from me , and started shaking and felt nausiated  . after a few mins passed i finally went  and i went to get up and my bladder hurt sooooooo bad . that was the first time i felt something like that  besides giving birth ! I have had alot of UTI in my yrs  some real bad and some i didnt know i had until i went to the docs. so far its been awhile since i had a uti .  as a matter of fact i dont think i had one since that episode happen ! Anyways what ever that was i dont think i want that again !

So sry i can go on and on sometimes i think the docs think im a nut case lol  cause they dont  find anything  but yet im still left with this pain ! and they dont know whats causing it !

Hi...I am stumped as well...wish I had some thing to tell u...but as for the tail bone....one bruised it can take a long time to heal......and u can develop a condition when u have an injury to ur back...it is called  syringomyelia...if u continue to have back and leg issues u may want to ask for a MRI of the lumbar spine to see if u injured ur lower back.

Do u have a reg BM?.....this can add to bloated feelings as well as gas....u may want to look into that as a possibility...u should go at least 2x's a day....many r not aware of that.....

Well  test came back fine .. stumped as to what this is .. i guess its not life threating or whatever .. it just get to be  an annoying after awhile . i do noticed that i burp alot  even when im not eating or drinking , the reflux is alot better , doc gave me prilosec 20mg  take once a day . But the pain in my left side /back is still there . im wondering if maybe something wrong with the muscle or maybe my back or poss hip ?cause when i was younger i did have pains after i walked alot in my left hip and down my leg , i also fell from a tree swing and landed on my back , it knocked the wind out of me for a few secs. but i managed to get up and shake it off, then there was another time where me and my son was on a big slide and we went to fast and i ended up landing on my tailbone at the end of the slide onto the concrete my legs went numb for prob like 10 secs . i do notice also and it only happened 2x so far . is my from my tailbone to down the back of my legs it would feel like it was vibrating and give me a feeling like  my legs were gonna give out . like i said it only happened 2x and  one of them was recent like a few wks back. the other one was like months ago !

Hi Nikki....I am sure ur smoking habit is playing into this....and good for u that u quit!!

May I ask, have u had ne changes in weight...gain or loss can also affect reflux.
Alcohol is yet another that will trigger reflux...we can't have ne fun...lol....

Make sure ur clothing is not tight...
Drink plenty of water after the barium test...u need to get all that out of u...so lots of water !!

It does sound like a hiatal hernia could be the root of ur problems....

yes ive been to my doc. and to the e.r.  Basically my doc told me for over the last 3 yrs its a muscle thing.  and on and off i had the bad heart burn and all . he did give me zantac and said it was gerd . but i was like no i dont have it every day and it wasnt that bad back then . so i desided not to take the zantac anymore . well now 3 yrs later its gotten worst , and the pain just comes and goes and each time it comes back its a lil worse . i just went to the E.R.  last week , basically he thinks its GERD also but poss. with a hiatal hernia . he isnt sure and told me its advisable to do a followup with my reg doc and have him send me to a gi doc. but my reg doc  is sending me to get a upper gi done 2morrow . with a barrium .  he also tested me to see if it was poss. a bactiar induced ulcer . but that came up neg.

i have smoked  since i was 13 yrs old on and off , now i have quit for 2 months now . and hopefully dont plan to pick up anymore . i occ. drink  and  when i got this last flare as it seems  i drank 3 glasses or so of margaritas with teq. in it . then a cpl of days later i got the left side pain, bloated , gas , burping , regurd. heartburn . it also seems i cant sit for long periods of time before it starts to really hurt me .

anyways ill find out soon on what this is and ill update you and again thank you for responding back to me .

Hi....I wish I knew what could be going on,....have u been to a dr for this yet?...if not, please call a GI dr and get a complete check up.

Thank you for responding , and no i havent had any ibs , just the pain on my left side that goes for the bottom of my ribs , wraps around my hip and into my back to the left side of the spine . and sometimes i feel pain up in my left lung area and to the shoulder and sometimes down my left arm .  if i bend over or bend to the left i feel pain. i cant turn to the left . cause it hurts . and like i said i have alot of burping . and gas . and sometimes it feels like a stitchy feeling inside  almost like after u have surgery . i also notice my left breast hurting too . basically the whole left side from my hip to my shoulder !!!!!!

Hi...over the yrs my flares we inconsistent too...but I was not aware on how ly diet and stress were affecting the cycles of flare ups....

I also have a hiatal hernia....I am  sure ur drs will do the barium swallow to determine if this is the root of ur GERD.....I have heard there is a manual procedure that some trained chiropractors can do to move the hernia down so it is less likely to cause symptoms.

May I ask do u also deal with IBS?
