I recently learned i have hiatal hernia and umbilical hernia.I have a discomfort under my rib cage and feel like i have a bloated stomach. I get bad heartburn and food coming back up esophagus hours after eating. last night reflux woke me up and today had black loose tary stool. also nausea on and off for months. My stomach has never felt so bloated ever. What is going on?

Hi,
Black tarry stools indicate bleeding in the upper GI tract. Since you have dyspeptic symptoms also, you most probably have a bleeding peptic ulcer.
Upper GI endoscopy has to be done to find the source of bleedingand treat it.
You need immediate medical attention.

Black tary stool to me sounds like you could have an Ulsar. Caused by Acid build up, it explains your bloating and food coming back up. Now as for the nausea, I have no idea, I have had nausea ever since I was diagnosed with GERD, so maybe gastric reflux can cause nausea, but with a black stool I would go to the Doctor Asap. thats a sign for a bleeding ulsar. Not garunteed, but to be safe go have it checked out as soon as you can.
