side effects of esomeprazole (Nexium) ?

Have taken Lansoprazole for years and after a heart condition kept on it but started to get atypical chest pain, which was not put down to the cardiac medication. Eventually the g.p. suggested trying (Nexium) -  Esomeprazole 20mg instead, with the instruction that if there was a temporary flare up, - double the dose. After several months this infrequent chest pain, accompanied by bloating, sore stomach and not too much reflux has become very intrusive and the pain worse, often improved by some food! Could the Nexium be too powerful after time and be a trouble maker? has anyone experience, please? I have had "Pylori" test, endoscopy etc.

Hi....I also have gone from the one to the other, but  the PPI's stopped working for me, and I am doing better on the Nexium which is a H2 inhibitor.

Do u have IBS issues?...Constipation as well as bloating? Were u on antibiotics recently?
Have u had a PH test done to make sure ur issue is too much acid?

Too little acid can cause the same symptoms, but when u take the meds to reduce acids when there is too little already u will feel worse.

Ask about a PH test.....then ask if a probiotic may help.

Hi,
Yes, I experienced this problem about a week ago.  I have GERD and am undergoing tests to see if surgery is needed again after many years.  I started taking previcid as I had done in the past.  When I met with my doctor she decided to put me on Nexium (which is stronger than 2 previcid tablets) because I was experiences burning and some chest tightness.  I started the Nexium on a Friday evening.  Then took a second Nexium Saturday morning (next day).  Wow I was having chest pains and my chest felt even tighter and heavier.  I hadn't had any chest pains and upper stomach pains before.  It was horrible.  I decided not to take a third dose of Nexium Saturday night and took my usual Previcid.  Next morning the chest pains and severe pressure/tightness were better.  I had no chest pain and milder chest pressure/tightness.  Ask your doctor to put you on Previcid - 1 tab at bedtime/2hrs after eating and 1 tab in morning 1/2 hr before meal.  I hope this helps.  Best wishes!

Thank you. No, no regular constipation or recent anti biotics.
I have not had a ph test, tho' understand it's value. Perhaps procedures are different in U.K., however, as it has never been mentioned despite Specialist consultations.
