I think I may be developing an eating disorder if this isnt sorted out soon.  I am getting panicky around food because of the feeling that some food is hanging around at the back of my tongue. I swallow and can feel it move down slightly but feel it come back up..   no matter how much water I  drink it seems to stay there . eventually it seems to go  (well so far) I've been to see the doctor who  said he cannot send me to the hospital until he has treated me for acid reflux as he  believes this is what it is  but I cant eat any more as this feeling is making me panic in case it goes down the wrong way.  This makes it hard for me to try food because I'm afraid all the time..  what shallI  do. I just tried a small piece of ham thats now lodging itself  at the back of my throat . Anyone else  ever had this with acid reflux or anything else.... and  what shall I  do about the not eating . I meant to add, don't worry about not eating, just make sure you are drinking water until you get this checked out.  Once you find a diagnosis, there will be a way to make sure you are getting the nutrients you need.

You need to see a GI specialist.  It sounds like you have esophageal stricture (narrowing of the esophagus).  This condition can be caused by acid reflux and can be very dangerous as others have posted here.

Foods to avoid:  chicken, ham, steak, turkey.....all these are fiberous and can lodge in your throat making you panic.  anything a dente.  Food like veggies need to be cooked to mush.  No nuts, fruit with skin, oranges ok, melons and banana good.

Eat ground meat like meatloaf, spaghetti, croquettes (chicken fingers), some fish, turkey loaf, sloppy joes....etc. Veggies are tricky.......best to juice or drink green smoothies. Potatoes ok.  Oatmeal......

My dad has esophagael stricture and has had to have esophagael dialation to widen his esophagus so food can go through.  I hope u do not have to do this.  It may be cured with acid reflux meds like Omerperzole.

Good Luck

I had similar symptoms and chronic hearburn. Food got stuck in my throat too. I ended up getting surgery to  repair my esophagus. GERD should be taken seriously. I went along for many years ignoring the symptoms. Now I feel much better. I still take two medications for acid reflux and ulcers, but haven't had heartburn since.

You should go to the emergency room of your local hospital in my opinion. Selma has given you symptoms of LR, and when it's severe, it can be dangerous.  I'd ignore your doctor's advice and just get help, the ER won't deny you entry and you will get more information.  Keep us informed.
