zithromax effect on gastritis/reflux

by Bob776, Jan 01, 2008 09:49PM
I recently had an upper gi to find that I have gastritis caused by antiinflammatory medications and acid reflux caused by the abuse of coca-cola.  I am taking ginger, dgl, msm, zinc carnosine, pine nut oil, vitamin c, selenium and honey.  I also no longer consume caffeine.

I recently was prescribed zithromax and boy did my gastrtis flare up as well as the heartburn.  I stopped the zithromax a week ago, continue to take my vitamins and enzymes to no avail.  What can I do?????

Hi bob776,
Zithromax causing flaring up of gastritis is quite rare when compared to antibiotics of the same group.

Relief can be obtained by -
1. Stopping the drug ( which you have done already)
2. Taking PPI
3. Life style modification  also needed for better relief.

Do a upper GI endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis and to find the extent of lesions.
