Gallbladder surgery requires general anesthesia, so where I live, it is always done in a hospital setting.  You need anesthesiologists available to help you if you get into trouble.  I have had other surgery in the doctor's office when it was less than general anesthesia, such as for my LASIK surgery and bunionectomy.  But gallbladder surgery was done in the hospital.  Ask how long he expects it to take and whether it is laparoscopic or regular incisional type.  Do you have actual stones or did the gallbladder just stop functioning?  How are you to resume eating the day after surgery?  (I remember my ex followed my instructions instead of finding my discharge instructions and reading those, so I got a full meal.  That might have made some people sick).  Be sure your significant other/caretaker gets the discharge instructions and knows to read them.  My ex apparently gave them to me, and in my drugged state I stuck them in my purse.  I kept asking where they were, and he did not know).  Do not try to eat super fatty foods in the first 6 months after surgery.  Cheesecake and cream cheese or probably bacon will still make you ssssiiiiiick.  Have a variety of healthy foods on hand so you can nibble without fuss.  I remember having trouble putting weight on after surgery after getting down to 108 lb before surgery from being so sick for so long.

Don't do it. Please Please read up about post cholecystectomy syndrome complications. I was a fit sports freak - gym 4 times a week,  endurance cyclist. No heath complcations ever. I was told there would be heath complications going forward - I could live a normal healthy life,  the gallbladder was a non essential organ. I had developed a single stone only. Pain on my left side never went away after the operation.. Lies Lies Lies  Please Don’t... My body failed to work properly almost immediately. I am in pain and discomforted every day for horrible side affects published as PCS. My symptoms are the exact same as thousand and thousands of sufferers of heath compilations. Statically 10-30 will be diagnosed with post gallbladder surgery complications. You will die young. Statistically more likely to have a heart attack if gallbladder removed. I have all the info on file that will convince you of this terrible mistake. I bumped into a friend this week with serious liver and other complications. You will never be able to process food properly gain. Extract nutrients from food, dissolve fats properly. You can dissolve stones as recommended by American institute of Gastros for 60% of gallstone situations. Google gallbladder surgery complications. Don’t believe the surgeons – making $$$$ incomes off trusting innocents. In you have gallstones you gallbladder does not have to come out. John

I understand warning her but dont scare the crap out of her,... its unfortunate you have so many complications and I  hope they can help you feel better, no one should have to suffer. Have you been back to GI?  You might have other stuff going on, like and IBD? I agree my digestion has suffered a bit, but gets better everyday, and only when i eat the bad foods (which i shouldnt anyways) but the pain I was in before, lost 44 lbs becasue I couldnt eat... sometimes you have no choice but to remove it.

Dildil I agree with other poster, make sure to eat healthy for a good 6 months after surgery dont try and over do it right away thats when people become extremely sick, also if you eat or drink dairy make sure its non fat and skimmed much easier on you... hopefully your surgeon will give you something for the extra bile/acid you will have in your stomach for first few weeks...overall I am glad i went ahead and feel much better.  Good luck with your surgery let us know how you make out.

Some people do have complications, but I do not think the surgery is a scam as it helps many people.  My own surgeon had to have his gallbladder taken out a couple of months before I did, and he is very interested in staying young and healthy to an advanced age.
