AP Attack & enzymes

I had a acute pancreatitis attack verified by a ct scan but my amylase and lipase levels never elevated above normal.  My white blood cell count did go up significantly.  I have a history of heavy drinking but have been alcohol free for almost 2 years.  Gallbladder is questionalble with sludge but no inflamation (inflammation).  Doctors are mystified about the low enzyme levels and what to do next.

Imaging the pancreas can be done with a CT scan for further evaluation.

With the elevated white count, inflammation and infection needs to be ruled out elsewhere.  Other GI causes would include the gallbladder - which can be evaluated with an ultrasound or CT scan.  If there is suspicion about biliary duct blockage, an MRCP can be considered.

Low pancreatic enzyme levels in the setting of pancreatitis is atypical.

Another GI opinion can be sought.

Hi - Dr. Pho only answers posts once unfortunately, not supplemental questions. To get his personal response you will need to do a new post, and pay the fee again. You could both try posting on the Gastroenterology Communities forum (look at the right hand side of this screen and click on: Related Communities - Gastroenterology.) There may be a member who can give advice related to their own experiences.

Met-tech,  I am afraid you cannot "piggy back" on someone else's post and have Dr. Pho reply. You need to make your own post.

Take care both,
Liz.

Thanks Lizzie for the advise.  I was just hoping to point out to Dr. Kevin that I stated in my first sentence that I had a ct exam.  He recommended a scan but I do not think he noticed that I already had one.
