Abdomen/Anal Discomfort

I am experiencing chronic "knawing" discomfort on the left side of my anal cavity stretching around into the groin/lower abdomen and penis areas on my left hand side.  There feels like there is something in the anal cavity on the left hand side.  Often when I "push" to urinate, I get a sharp pain in the lower abdomen and penis area on the left hand side.  I do not have any other problems with bowel movements except I have noticed an increase in frequency of urination.  I also notice that my whole left leg down to my foot aches and cramps a good portion of the day.  I am an avid weightlifter and don't know if this problem could be associated with a hernia, muscle strain, colon disorder, or something entirely else.  The problem has existed for at least the last six weeks and is only on the left hand side.  What should I do?

Dear Eric,
Your symptoms may be related to problems of rectum, bladder/prostate or neural innervation.  IF the symptoms persist you should see your physician regarding the possibility of flexible sigmoidoscopy, urianlysis and pelvis ultrasound.  A neurologic evaluation to exclude nerve compression may also be needed.
This information is presented for educational purpose sonly.  Always ask pecific questions to your personal physician.
