Acid reflux/gatristins is gone, why have abdominal pains?

I was diagnosed Gastritis about 1 yer ago. gastritis is gone more or less, but I still had intermittent abdominal pains (dull, not severe, scale 1/10). The pain mostly is located around gallbladder position, but sometime could be left upper Quadrant, below the rib. The pain feels like poking and only lasts few second, but it will come back in 5 minutes or 1 hour, or maybe 1 day. Become worse in daytime, after some fatty food, but NEVER had any pain during the nights.

The doctor first suspected a gallbladder problem; I had a HIDA scan and reveals it is normal. He said honestly with me, he doesn’t know what the problem is but suspects IBS or Chronic functional abdominal pain (with I do not believe so, I do not have diarrhea, cramps). He now asked me to try probiotics.
Here is a short-summary of what I had
Jan/2009: Stomach discomfort, food sensation in throat, make appointment with Dr. L.

Feb/2009, Upper GI, some inflammation on stomach, nothing serious, on PREVACID 30mg per day, before meal

March/2009, weight loss from 185LBs- 170 LBs., then Dr. L prescribed 30mg x2 per day. Had abdominal pain at two sides and right Upper Quadrant. had ultrasound, no problem found

April-June/2009, symptoms hardly got improved, weight loss from 170 to 160LBs. I took Tums and PEPCID in addition

July-Sept/2009, see another Dr J. for second opinion. same medication. Gradually, symptoms getting relieved, stopped medication for a month

Oct – Nov /2009. Stomach gnawing (mild, back on 30mg PREVACID), intermittent abdominal pain.

Dec 2009, abdominal pain, seeing Dr. J gain, Eliminated Egg/Fatty food from diet, symptoms improved dramatically.

Jan 2010, HIDA scan is ok. Now on 15mg prevacid. But abdominal pain always comes back. See Dr. J for follow up, nothing serious and shouldn’t be worried about. maybe CFAP.

do I need to see another physician for a (third) opinion. Any additional test scheduled?

A HIDA scan is very helpful at considering problems of the gallbladder.  A second opinion with a  gastroenterologist could help, and they may suggest upper endoscopy to fully examine the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder and upper intestines.

Hi there was interested to read your story and although I dont have gastritis anymore, I did have last May 08. (My story is under sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, I will just summarise my issue so you can understand where my story is leading). My problems continued on into June and July lst year where I finally had my GB removed, Post-op pain reduced and there was still a niggle of pain so I referred myself back to my GI specialist. five weeks later on my first night back home to the Uk for a holiday I was woken up with the most horrendous abdominal pain I had ever experienced. Had another three that night and was just left feeling very tired and nauseous the next day. Seven weeks later more of the same intense pain and again in a wave of three, lasting from about 5-10 mins. The GI doctor has now mentioned SOD dysfunction to me and he feels this is what he thinks I have.
No more pain/spasms until christmas morning  and 'bang' the old pain returns; two days later I was in hospital for 8 days. the doctor has started me on some meds which Im not very happy about but I am giving them a try. I decided I would be alittle pro-active in my treatment to see if my symptoms could be controlled by diet too. I commenced myself on a liver cleansing diet, and cut all dairy and processed foods and eat only free-range chicken. Well this is my 4th week and to my surprise the pain had sub-sided and I actually feel alot better in myself. I have never eaten a high-fat diet but did consume a lot of processed foods on a daily basis. I did however have some pain this week but it was more dull like rather than a sharp stabbing pain. I will stay on this diet for a while longer  and hopefully the pains will reduce further.
I hope your issue gets sorted mine looks like Im in for a long ride but fingers x:-)

Reading your story reminds me of my own.  Your symptoms are a little more severe than MINE.  But I can tell you that all of my test also came back negative.  HIDA scan, Ultra sounds, Lung XRAY,etc. but one.  I had a Endoscopy today.  Upper GI tract and stomach.  The doctor found mild inflammation of the stomach lining.  He took a biopsy to rule out H. Pylori.  A bacteria found in the stomach that can cause ulcers or gastritis.
I have a follow up with him on Thursday.  I am hope he has found a diagnosis to my problem.  Keeping my fingers crossed.
