After Gallbladder surgery

I recently had GB surgery, approx 5 weeks ago, and am wondering whether the pain I am having in my back and abdomen warrants an appt with my dr.  History- surgery was to remove GB because of a low ejection rate- 15% documented by HIDA scan, after a 6 month history of attacks of nausea, vomiting and pain and 30 LB weight loss and many different tests that showed no stones (ultrasound, CT Scan, etc.).  The surgery was done laproscopically.  No stones were discovered, but there were many adhesions attaching my GB to my liver, and during the surgery some bile was spilt.  Post surgery exam of GB showed acute cholysystitus.  I got an infection in one of the incisions about a week after the surgery, took antibiotics and seemed to be progressing well.  The infected incision was draining for over 3 weeks before it stopped.   Most of the nausea has stopped, but I am still having bouts of pain in RUQ and am wondering how long this could continue.  Could this pain be caused by the adhesions, the spilt bile? Based on how long the pain continues, when would I need to see my Dr?

There can be several causes for your discomfort.  Post-op complications (i.e. post-op infection) certainly should be considered.  This can be discussed with your surgeon.  

If the symptoms continue, you can consider some imaging (like an ultrasound) to evaluate for any bile duct damage.  An ERCP or MRCP can also be considered for further evaluation.

These options should be discussed with your surgeon or personal physician.
