Alkaline phosphatase level

Alkaline phosphatase level

Hello -

I'm a 41 yr old male and I had recent blook work done that came back with a 117 level for alkaline phosphatase.  All other numbers were within range.

Last year it was 88.

My Dr doesn't seem worried - should I investigage further.

Thanks.

Elevated alkaline phosphatase can be due to liver or bone disease.  Obtaining liver function tests like a GGT, AST or ALT can be done.  If elevated, further investigation can be made with an ultrasound.

If not, then you can look further at the bones to exclude disease there.  If this route is taken, a bone scan would be a reasonable option.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Thanks Dr

I forgot to mention that the normal upper range limit for this lab is 115.

So, barely out of range.

If I repeated the test in a month or so, would it be likely it falls in range?

Hi - in my experience the Dr. does not answer supplementary questions. If you want your second post answering, afraid you will need to post again and pay the fee.
