Anal Fissures

Is there anything other than Annusol HC that can be used to heal anal fissures?  I don't understand how major surgeries can be performed, but there seems to be no quick cure for an anal fissure.  I've had this problem for 2 months.  I have used the Annusol HC and soaked in warm baths, but to no avail.  Since an anal fissure is actually an anal ulcer, can something like Neosporin or Triple Antiobiotic cream be used on the sore?

I sympathize with your problem. I have a family member with the same condition.  I know what pain they have had to endure.  Over the counter preparations seldom work for fissures that continue to bleed.  An ointment called proctomyxin HC is very helpful in the treatment of this condition.  It is important to keep the stools soft with plenty of water and fruits and cooked vegetables.  Metamucil and mineral oil may also help.  My relatives condition lasted over 3 months, and now seems to be healing.  Good luck!

Thank you.  Fortunately, I've not had a problem with bleeding, just the constant discomfort since I'm a secretary and sit for 10 hours every day!

Hi - I've had similar problems for the past two years.  Started out with a perianal cyst and have had several surgeries for fistulas.  I have found along with the warm baths (actually as hot as you can stand it) there is something else that helps the pain.  It is an ointment called:  Nupercainal Ointment.  It is NOT a prescription but alot of pharmacies keep it behind the counter because its a special order item.  Hopefully you can try some of this and it will give you a little comfort.  Also drink plenty of water and if you need to take Citricel or Metamucil and Colace if needed.  Soft stools are very important.  Hope this information has helped.  Best of luck to you.

Due to a high protein/meat diet with little to no cooked vegatation I developed a fissure.  Very stupid, very uncomfortable and at times bloody. I've stated taking Senna on a daily basis to soften my stool, as well as eating lots of cooked veggies.  Can I expect healing to occur?
