Augmentin Diarrhea

Augmentin Diarrhea

Hi there,

I'm a 23 years old guy. Past Sunday night I had fever and a very intense sore throat. On Monday morning I went to my doctor, he told me it was tonsillitis and prescribed me Augmentin 500g (amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium) and paracetamol. Fever left same day and I'm not feeling sore throat anymore so I stoped with paracetamol. Since Tuesday, I started to have very liquid diarrhea. I think it's probably because of the antibiotics. Since then I've drinked a lot of water, sport drinks and ate natural yoghurt, rice, etc. but there are no changes. My augmentin treatment should finish on Tuesday so I still have 4 days left and I can't see my doctor until Monday.

My question is the following:

Is it dangerous to keep with augmentine with these syntomps? I know it's not good at all to stop with antibiotics but I'm afraid of getting a bigger infection because of a sore troath.

thanks in advance.

Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of antibiotics, including Augmentin.  Changing the antibiotic can be considered if it continues.

I would also send it for analysis, including testing for C. Difficile - a bacteria that is associated with antibiotic use.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
