Bile duct

Bile duct

I had my gallbladder and bile duct removed in 1992.  I was just informed that some bile may be backing up into my stomach, which causes bloating.  Is that possible?

Bile acid reflux is possible.  However, this would be less likely with the gallbladder removed.

To determine if this is the case, you may want to consider an upper endoscopy.  Another test to consider would be the analyze for bile salts in the gastric juice.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or gastroenterologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
