Blood mixed with stool

Blood mixed with stool

  Hello,
I am a 27 year old female.  I have notice blood mixed with stool
twice.  I have also noticed a little abdominal pain.  I do not have a
family history of cancer.  I am very concerned, I do not have a regular physician.
I have been very healthy and I get my routine female checkups every year.
I'm worried because I have two children.
  Thank You
  Freda
Dear Freda,
Blood mixed with the stool implies bleeding from the lower colon or rectal area. You should at least be evaluated with a test called flexible sigmoidoscopy. In this test a tube with a light and video camera is advanced up the left side of the colon to look for bleeding lesions. Colorectal cancer uncommonly occurs in your age group, but nevertheless inflammatory bowel disease (colitis) needs to be ruled out. I hope you find this information helpful.
