CT Results

A recent CT scan showed a multi-loculated cyst indentified anteriorly and medially within the superior aspect of the left lobe of my liver. The cyst expands the capsule of the liver but does not appear to extend outside of the liver. The cyst measures 6.5 x 3.5 cm in size.  Otherwise the CT scan of the abdomen is normal. I would appreciate information regarding experience with this type situation . My doctor has taken several blood tests and should have results next week. He suggests three possibilities. 1. Do nothing and take another scan in 3-6 months. 2.Send me to a surgeon for consultations and possible surgery. 3. Draw the fluid out by needle and hope it doesn't refill. Thanks for your help

I have many cysts in my liver. My right lobe was covered with a 12 cm fluid filled cyst and another about half that size. I just had surgery the 8th of this month and had them deroofed.  Surgeon took part of the top of the cyst off.In other words, the surgeon drained the two. (Got out a quart of fluid). He also did a liver biopsy on me, as my liver enzymes were elevated.
My liver tends to make these huge cysts which pushes on my liver tissue and causes a drainage problem and that was raising my enzymes.
I was told this is hereditary and that more people have them probably than is known, but they have never given them any trouble. In general, they dont give trouble unless they become so large.
I searched the internet everywhere looking for info. on these cysts. Not much on the net.
They usually watch the cyst to see if it enlarges. Also, I was told a needle aspiration would do no good, because it would fill back up immediately. They can do some kind of needle type thing with alcohol or antibiotics, I have read.
I hope this has helped you some. Also ,be thankful if you only have one.
Have a nice day.

Thank you for the information. I also searched the internet and found very little info. My doctor says this is very common.
I had no indication except from the ultrasound for my gallbladder.
Was your surgery done by laproscopy ? How long were you in the hospital ? Any problems ?
You have a great day

Yes, I had laprascopic surgery. I was in hospital overnight. I had to travel around 375 miles to a university hospital to have it done and the trip back did not help me. Roads were very bumpy.
I am finally getting my strength back, but still have some discomfort in my liver area. I don't know why. If it continues, I will call my surgeon who did the work on me. I suppose the liver takes time to heal , like anything else.
Take care.

Again, thank you for your prompt response and info. I was concerned about the type of surgery, if needed.
Sorry to hear that you haven't completely healed. As you said, call the doctor and , yes, it all takes time.

Best wishes
