Can Hiatal Hernia be cured?

I have been diagnosed with Hiatal hernia accompanied by GERD. The disease has been there for almost 6 months. Although I'm taking Cisapride and Prevasid for almost two months I still feel uncomfortable with my throat, a little pain behind chestbone and frequent belching. Can this ever be cured without surgical measures? Thanks.

Dear Kenny,
Most patients with reflux will respond to the medical therapy that has been prescribed for you.  In some cases, however, surgery is necessary for complete control of symptoms.
