Carcinoid Tumors

Recently I had a carcinoid tumor removed from the wall of my small intestines.  It was close where my stomach ends so they removed part of my stomach. It was benign. I have heard that there is a test that can be given to make sure you have so more carcinoid tumors anywhere.  I have also heard that is takes an entire day.  The doctor that mentioned was surprised that I did not have the test while I was in the hospital recovering from the surgery.  What is the name of the test and exactly what kind of a test is it?  I have already taken the test where you swallow a camera and it looks around and records everything.  Mine came back with some questions.  Some areas could have been folds in the intestines.  My doctor didn't seem worried about them though.

There are a couple of tests that can test more thoroughly for carcinoid.

The first two options would be an abdominal CT and pentetreotide imaging (indium-111 octreotide imaging).

If the above tests do not localize the tumor, you can consider further endoscopy (which you have already had), or abdominal MRIs.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
