what is the most concrete test to find out if a patient has any Sprue ?
Celiac Disease?
And if eating wheat sometimes does not cause turmoil  , Oh I would appreciate some insight.
I have to do additional blood work, this week.
In regards to needing digestive enzymes, Which as I have posted can be a tough time for my body. But stool detects if food has been digested, And if one only eats mashed foods with no protein, Would this in fact effect the test results.

Dear Karie,

I don't have Celiac Disease, but we have a friend who does. He was never "tested". He was told to try going on a GLUTEN-FREE DIET, and within a short time, he was feeling better, and after a few months, his small intestine was HEALING NICELY!

There are specific blood tests nowadays, that you can find out about, by going to the PN/Peripheral Neuropathy forum, over at a neurological website, at http://www.braintalk.org

Look for JCC's "thread" about Food Sensitivities. I'll go over there and bump it up for you, so you can find it. In that "thread" are great links to Dr. Fine's excellent Celiac Disease websites. Dr. Fine has a daughter who has Celiac Disease, but who was not correctly diagnosed until Dr. Fine pushed hard enough to get his daughter correctly diagnosed.

Even GI/Gastro-Intestinal docs may not know enough about Celiac Disease. Some do, and some don't.

But, YOU can try (with no prescription) a GLUTEN-FREE DIET for several weeks, and if you also avoid any other foods that you may be sensitive to (like milk products), and if you improve on the gluten-free diet, then you will have empirically discovered that you probably do have Celiac Disease.

AVOID THE FOLLOWING GLUTENOUS FOODS: WHEAT, RYE, OATS, BARLEY, BUCKWHEAT. Brown rice is gluten-free. Corn is gluten-free, but is very "allergenic", so temporarily avoid corn. Maybe, avoid all grains for a while, and later on, try brown rice. Millet agrees with some Celiac patients, but not with all.

There are many websites for Celiac Disease patients.

You do need a good GI doc though, to help you find out ALL that may be wrong with your health! And also, see other types of docs, such as an ENDOCRINOLOGIST who can help figure out if you have hormonal imbalances from some glands having problems.

I have a friend at work who was tested for this as well as myself.  Both were done by doing blood work.  She showed positive and I showed negative.  She went onto a specialist for extensive testing and they did a test where they went down her throat and took tissue samples.  Her test then showed negative to Celiac.  However, she is Fructose Intollerant.  She has been very sick for a long time and lost tremendous amounts of weight.  If you have Celiac you have to be very very careful about food preparation, meaning to make sure when you fix your food that it comes in no contact with any flour or foods that are classified as contaminated.  You also need to stay away from eating at restaurants.  Good Luck!

Thank you , I don't eat out and have been eating the same for months :
Cream of wheat, skinless potatoe, white corn chips, apple, bananas, water, Choice , egg.
Abdominal pain 7 months of this and hoping to locate cause and or begin treating.
With this diet, No food would show in stool ?
blue nails, weight loss, fatigue, abdominal pain, heartburn, dizziness, bleeding gums. Falling apart.........

when i was 9yrs old was diagnosed with celiac was one of the oldest living known with celiac at that time my parents were told i wouldn't live to be an adult. i am now 44yrs old live a normal life with a normal diet when it acts up i just watch what i eat for a while then i am fine. good luck

Have you ever been told you have hydroephrosis : They found water aroung my liver on a recent CT. Now ordered a pelvic ultrasound and CT with contrast. Last time I had the contrast : I had chest pain and a racing heart until they gave my an additional injection. Still Indigestion ; Daily and want to heal But the doctor has no idea cause yet and what . Pain and so hungry. Still hope for a better day.
Do you see a tie in with the kidney ? Abdominal pain last night woke me up and it made me pass out : nausea, chills. Heating pad and fell asleep in 2 hours. No fever. Thanks. What can heartburn and stomach pain be part of ?

Someone posted a message earlier (can't remember exactly where) about adhesions (scar tissue) that connected his or her kidney to his or her intestines, resulting in pain.

Check into this, just in case.

Have you known of any patient with hydronephrosis ?
I would like to have all the health issues role into one and feel better soon...............
Can antibiotics be given by shot vs. the stomach pain with pills. Trying new cleaners on teeth and gargling with salt , for gums But dentist said nerves can effect and if infection is present. Oh not to fall apart.............Thanks again
